EnergyX is charging ahead in the sustainable lithium extraction and battery technology space, with the opening of a new 40,000 square foot production facility in Austin, Texas, after securing an additional US$50M in capital, marking a significant step in the company’s rapid expansion.
Founded less than six years ago by entrepreneur Teague Egan, EnergyX has rapidly advanced in the lithium and battery industry. The company initially developed its proprietary Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology, known as LiTAS™, which has evolved into a comprehensive suite of technologies for producing battery-grade lithium materials. This innovative technology can recover over 90% of lithium from brine, significantly higher than the traditional 30-40% recovery rate.
In 2023, EnergyX began acquiring its own lithium mines, positioning itself as a major player in the projected US$134B lithium industry by 2035. The company has raised over US$110M in investments, with backing from major investors such as General Motors, Eni, and POSCO.
The new facility in Austin will house EnergyX’s innovation lab, global operations controls, DLE production, and warehouse. This expansion is expected to create hundreds of new jobs, further boosting the local economy. CEO Teague Egan expressed excitement about the company’s growth, stating, “We are thrilled to be adding so many incredible scientists, engineers, and operators to the EnergyX team. As we transition from research to commercialization, the most exciting parts are ahead of us”.
Austin, often referred to as “Silicon Hills,” is becoming a hub for innovation and technology, attracting major companies like Tesla, Oracle, Meta, Apple, and Google. EnergyX’s new facility is a testament to the city’s growing importance in the tech and energy sectors.
