The Assay TV speaks with James Lorimer, Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, at 121’s Mining Investment Event Cape Town to discuss Africa’s growing role in the the race for critical minerals.
James tells us that now is the time for African countries to really take advantage of their mineral rich lands, but that there needs to be a primary focus on the ESG friendly extraction of these minerals, which has been lacking in previous decades.
James also talks about South Africa’s mining framework, which he has been pushing to change in order to more effectively support the mining sector and attract investment. He explains that last year South Africa’s election produced a coalition between his party, the Democratic Alliance, and the African National Congress, allowing them to work closely with the other political members to best advise and guide them to support mining activities in the country.
