Antilles Gold Limited (ASX: AAU | OTCQB: ANTMF) has received a technical evaluation of its El Pilar Porphyry System in the Gaspar area of Ciego de Avila province in central Cuba.
The evaluation was prepared by the company’s exploration director, Dr. Christian Grainger, and a Colombian consulting geologist, Ricardo Sierra (engaged by Antilles Gold on its exploration programmes in Cuba.)
These two highly experienced geologists with a record of exploration successes have advised that “the results of investigations to date indicate the strong possibility of discovering a significant porphyry copper deposit at El Pilar.”
Some of the highlights included ten diamond drillholes totaling 2,955m (184 to 425m depth) which were completed with a focus on defining the vertical limits of the porphyry and diatreme breccia system exposed at surface and to attempt to identify additional zones of porphyry style veining/mineralization and breccias in economic concentrations at depth.
The El Pilar prospect incorporates a singular intrusive cluster of dioritic porphyritic intrusions along an extensive trend of associated intrusive centres of which the El Pilar, Gaspar, and Camilo prospects appear to be the most prospective for copper and gold mineralization.
The geophysical survey used induced polarization (IP) and terrestrial magnetometry methods, covering an approximate area of 614ha in 20 lines with an east-west orientation and 100m line separation.
It is expected that drilling will be resumed on the El Pilar porphyry system after the relevant concession is transferred from Antilles Gold’s existing exploration agreement with the Cuban Government’s mining company, GeoMinera, to a joint venture with the potential for majority foreign ownership.
