Asian Battery Metals (ASX: AZ9) has announced another significant discovery at its Oval Cu-Ni-PGE Project in Mongolia’s Gobi-Altai region.
The latest diamond drill hole, OVD026, has intercepted a 19.3m zone of combined mineralization from 91.2m depth, including a high-grade massive sulphide section of 1.9m containing 8.0% chalcopyrite, 10.0% pentlandite, and 80.0% pyrrhotite.
This new intercept, located 100m northwest of the previously announced massive sulphide discovery in OVD021, demonstrates the potential continuity of the mineralization system within the Oval gabbroic intrusion. The discovery is particularly significant as it expands the known footprint of high-grade mineralization in the project area.
The company employed down-hole electromagnetic (DHEM) surveys to guide the drilling programme, leading to this successful intersection. The DHEM conductor plate that led to this discovery was previously considered less significant due to its low conductivity, highlighting the importance of comprehensive testing approaches.
With assay results pending and expected within 5-6 weeks, Asian Battery Metals continues to demonstrate the expanding potential of its Oval Project, and the company believes this latest discovery reinforces its position as an emerging player in the critical minerals sector, particularly in Asia’s growing battery metals market.
The company continues its Phase 2 drilling programme with five holes completed to date.
