Discovery Alaska Limited’s (ASX: DAF) has confirmed lithium minerals from historical drill core at the Coal Creek prospect, part of DAF’s 100% owned Chulitna Project in Alaska.
The lithium potential was identified through evaluation works at the Coal Creek prospect.
The company conducted a detailed preliminary work programme of the lithium occurrences at Coal Creek via scanning works on an initial 12 priority drill holes, using a SciAps Z-901 LIBS handheld analyser to determine rudimentary lithium content throughout the entirety of each drill hole.
The scanner detected the presence of lithium across broad zones in all 12 drill holes
The 12 priority scanned drill holes – DDH-14, DDH-15, DDH-20, DDH-21, DDH 24, DDH25, DDH-33, DDH-36, and 06-43 to 06-46 identified positive results within the finer-grained aplitic intrusive.
The preliminary scan results indicate the lithium is found disseminated throughout the priority drill holes, with selective concentrations within stockworked, mineralised greisen zones within the upper coarse-grained granite, and highly disseminated within the finer-grained granite.
“The company is excited to progress lithium exploration works at our Coal Creek prospect with positive scanning results indicating broad zones of lithium in all drill holes tested thus far,” Discovery Alaska Director, Jerko Zuvela, said.
“Next stage works include laboratory analysis testing of the prospective core identified from the scanned priority drill holes. We look forward to realising the lithium potential at our Coal Creek prospect and advancing works toward delineating a maiden JORC resource.”
The company noted that the scanner only takes readings within a small window, and the results don’t account for the whole rock concentration within that interval.
Project Background
The company’s 100% owned Chulitna Project area comprises 199.4 sq. km, is located on State of Alaska public lands, and is not subject to any Native Title claims, native lands, or native claimant groups. The project lies approximately 250km north of Anchorage and close to the major Parks Highway, which runs mostly parallel to the State-owned Alaska railroad.
The project hosts numerous prospect areas identified from historical works, which are prospective for lithium, gold, silver, copper, tin and base metals. The two main prospect areas currently identified within the project area are Partin Creek and Coal Creek.
