Galileo Mining Ltd (ASX: GAL) has identified a number of new targets with assays from recent drilling at the Callisto palladium-nickel discovery as it makes drilling preparations at the company’s 100% owned Norseman project in Western Australia.
“Callisto continues to deliver good drill intercepts highlighting that we have yet to understand the full extent of the discovery,” Managing Director, Brad Underwood, said.
“Diamond drilling is progressing to the north, and we are working on the prospective stratigraphy that occurs over five kilometres with pending assays for five drill holes already completed in this area.
“Meanwhile, preparations are well advanced for RC drilling at our Jimberlana and Mission Sill prospects where previous aircore drilling and geophysical surveying have defined high quality targets for testing.
“Drilling at Jimberlana and Mission Sill will mark the beginning of our first regional exploration campaign at our 255km2 Norseman project since the discovery of Callisto. We believe the information gained from over 10,000m of diamond drilling and 20,000m of RC drilling has given us a good understanding of the ground we are exploring and consequently increased the likelihood of further success.
“We are very excited to be exploring a newly discovered palladium-nickel district and look forward to all of the upcoming drilling.”
Drilling from the northern most line completed to date shows that the 72m wide grade intersection reported in March 2023 occurs within an interpreted fold structure where the widths and grades of mineralisation are higher than in the surrounding drill holes.
This fold structure is now being targeted along strike to determine whether additional mineralization, with possibly higher grades, is present within the prospective host rock to the north of Calisto. The current planned drill program is on a 100m x 100m drill pattern with a minimum of two drill holes per section. The current diamond drill campaign which will test 600m of strike to the north of the most recent drill assays. The drill programme will be amended and expanded as more results become available.
Callisto remains open down dip to the east and along strike to the north. Drilling over the coming months is planned to define the extent of the Callisto discovery with an emphasis on working the area along strike to the north.
Logging and interpretation of drill core indicates that Callisto is a separate mineralized sill, with multiple sulphide mineralized zones, that has intruded a pre-existing mafic-ultramafic sill complex. The host sill complex has a strong magnetic signature which trends north-northeast and outcrops over a 5km strike to the north. Callisto is a blind undercover discovery with strong potential for additional mineralized intrusions occurring within the 5km prospective horizon to the north.
Jimberlana and Mission Sill Prospects
A 4,000 m RC drill campaign is planned to commence at the Jimberlana and Mission Sill prospects in late June with drilling expected to take approximately one month to complete. The Mission Sill is a mafic-ultramafic sill with similar geology to the host rock at the Callisto discovery. The Mission Sill is located approximately six km to the east of Callisto and has multiple anomalous drilling results over a 10 km strike length. The initial target for testing is “MS3”.
The Jimberlana Dyke is an extensive east-west trending mafic-ultramafic dyke with anomalous drill results on both the northern and southern margins. Of particular note is an intersection on the northern margin at the bottom of an Air Core drill hole where geochemically anomalous sulphides were intersected. Strong EM conductors proximal to the anomalous drill intercept make this prospect a compelling target.
