Confirm Significant Mineralisation West Of Makuutu Resource
Ionic Rare Earths Limited (ASX: IXR) has confirmed near surface REE clay mineralisation with the receipt of tranche 5 drill assays from the recently completed Phase 2 drill programme at its 51% owned Makuutu Rare Earths Project in Uganda.
The drill assays also confirmed numerous thick intervals confirmed at the Makuutu Western Zone,
Managing Director Tim Harrison reported that 34 of 38 holes intersected REE clay mineralisation above MRE cut-off grade which is very encouraging for potential future upgrades
Notable intercepts for grade and thickness are: 8.8m at 612 ppm TREO from 4.9m ;8.4m at 700 ppm TREO from 2.3m; 12.5m at 728 ppm TREO from 4m; 11.7m at 621 ppm TREO from 4.1m; and 8m at 609 ppm TREO from 5.3m
“These results confirm the extent of the REE clay mineralisation in the western zone at Makuutu. The grade and thickness reported is as expected and consistent with other areas of the Makuutu project area,” Mr Harris said,
“These tranche 5 results originate from an exploration target area of approximately 4.5 square km so we can expect based upon the results a sizable contribution towards the resource update in Q1 2021. We expect this to have a positive impact on future Scoping Study revisions.”
The fifth tranche of assay results for the Makuutu resource expansion programme have been received from the Phase 2 drill programme which consisted of 3,745m of core drilling across the three granted tenements at Makuutu.
The aim of the programm4 was to validate the fompany’s Exploration Target (set out within), quantify the potential of the 26-kilometre-long Makuutu mineralisation corridor and provide data for an upcoming mineral resource expansion, all of which has proven to be successful. Since that time, the newly awarded Exploration Licences have extended the Makuutu mineralisation corridor to 37km in length.
