Able To Continue Operations During COVID Lockdown
Lithium Australia (ASX:LIT) subsidiary Envirostream Australia Pty Ltd’s Melbourne battery recycling facility will continue to operate under the guidelines recently released by the Victorian government during its stage-4 lockdown.
Envirostream has been included in the list of ‘Electricity, gas, water and waste services’ considered important infrastructure and is also classified as an essential service.
The company previously put in place strict COVID-19 protections for the benefit of its employees and the general community, and continues to play a vital role in preventing toxic battery waste from entering both landfill and ground-water systems.
Envirostream Australia, the country’s first on-shore mixed battery recycling company, was created in 2017 to develop safe and innovative management solutions for one of the biggest emerging challenges for the Australian waste industry.
It is leading the innovation change with new battery processing methods. The company’s Australian-owned, enclosed battery processing facility is based on international best practice, designed and built by the team at Envirostream.
The revolutionary Envirostream system is the result of over three years of research and development. The ISO 14001 accredited, modular processing technology recovers around 95% of the materials contained in a battery.
The first of its kind in Australia, recovers the steel, copper, aluminium which is returned to the manufacturing sector and, produces a Mixed Metal Dust (MMD), our primary material. The MMD is used as an input material in the manufacture of cathode materials for new batteries.
