Mako Gold Limited (ASX: MKG) has announced the results of its first manganese reconnaissance drilling programme on the Ouangolodougou permit which, along with the Korhogo Nord permit, constitute the company’s wholly-owned Korhogo Project, Côte d’Ivoire.
Managing director, Peter Ledwidge, commented, “We are extremely excited with the results of our very first drill programme at the Korhogo Project testing for manganese.”
“Eight out of the ten holes we drilled across the interpreted 14km combined strike intersected manganese. These results confirm the potential for a globally significant manganese discovery. Given the high prospectivity of the deposit, I spent several days on the project in July and observed first-hand the sheer extent of the Mn outcropping at surface.”
A total of 10 reverse circulation (RC) holes were drilled to test for subsurface manganese mineralization on two parallel manganese-rich lithological units, each of which are over 7km in strike length for a combined total exceeding 14km. Eight of the 10 drill holes intersected manganese indicating the potential for a globally significant manganese deposit.
The company has confimed that multiple wide zones of manganese were intersected in several holes. Two holes were mineralized throughout most of the hole and ended in mineralization, and only 257m of the 500m drilled have been analysed to date.
Intervals above 5% Mn cut-off have been reported. The grade of Mako’s wide spaced reconnaissance results returned in this drill programme are similar to several ASX-listed manganese focused producers/developers.
Multiple wide shallow zones of mineralization intersected with results up to 19% Mn, including:
· OURC001:
- 27m at 10.2% Mn from surface; including 7m at 14.0% Mn from surface
- 19m at 6.7% Mn from 31m
· OURC003: 11m at 14.6% Mn from surface
- 10m at 10.8% Mn from 15m
- 7m at 8.4% Mn from 36m
- 3m at 10% Mn from 47m
In the coming months, detailed geological mapping and rock-chip sampling, a ground geophysical survey, metallurgical testing, and further drilling will be completed.
