Odyssey Gold Limited (ASX:ODY) has returned a “stunning” high-grade gold intersection of 4m @ 53.9g/t Au in RC drilling at the Maybelle Deposit part of the Tuckanarra Project in the Murchison Goldfields of Western Australia
“The result of 4m @ 53.9g/t Au is the highest gram metre result ever drilled at Maybelle and successfully confirms and extends the interpreted high-grade shoots below the Maybelle Pit,” Managing Director, Matt Briggs, said.
“Structural analysis and modelling by our geologists identified the plunge as more steeply dipping than previously interpreted as confirmed by this latest hole.
“This latest high-grade intersection is very encouraging and demonstrates the clear potential to establish a quality resource footprint at Maybelle.
“Historic mining has barely scratched the surface with mineralisation now continuous from the base of the 30m deep pit to 100m below surface.
“The high-grade shoot remains open for 150m to the north of this hole. Our drilling strategy across the Tuckanarra Project is continuing to highlight the potential scale and high-grade nature of our portfolio, and we are looking forward to reporting assay results from similar targets recently drilled at Maybelle North, Lucknow and Douglas.”
Current Drilling Strategy
Odyssey’s Tuckanarra Project is part of the prolific Murchison Goldfields. The Murchison Goldfields are host to a +35Moz gold endowment (historic production plus current resources).
Recent drilling by Odyssey has focussed on defining high grade shoots extending below the Bottle Dump, Bollard and Cable Pits, along with extending the system to the north and to the east at the highly prospective Highway Zone structure.
Several other advanced targets have also been RC drilled, including Maybelle, Maybelle North, Lucknow, Douglas and Cable North.
Maybelle Background
Gold mineralisation at Maybelle is associated with steeply dipping sheared sediment that extends for over 1.5km along a line of historical workings. A shallow oxide pit, on the southern 450m of sediment, was predominantly mined in the mid 1990’s.
Total bedrock drilling at Maybelle since discovery includes 56 RC holes and 7 diamond drillholes with most holes less than 60m in depth and only one hole deeper than 100m below surface.
Mining was to a maximum of 26m below surface. Ore treated from mining at Maybelle up to 1904 is reported as ~554t @ 5.7g/t Au for 103oz produced.
Subsequent open pit mining to a depth of 30m in the early 1990’s produced 52kt @ 3.6g/t Au for 6,020oz before mining was halted as the ores started to transition to primary sulphides.
Metallurgical testwork completed in 1994 on composites from fresh sulphide mineralisation recovered over 98% of gold in fresh rock.
Future Work
Drilling at Maybelle has successfully confirmed and extended the high-grade shoot below the Maybelle Pit. Further RC drilling in planned up plunge and to the north of MBSRC0098, with additional drilling likely to extend the high-grade mineralisation to be included in a future resource estimate.
Assays are pending for RC drilling along strike at Maybelle North where an additional 450m of strike of the Maybelle structure has been drilled, and a number of other targets on the project including the Highway Zone.
