Pilar Gold has announced an update regarding a drilling programme at its Maria Lázara Southeast (MLSE), Brazil, where two rigs and 12 workers are currently deployed. The company has stated that the programme is in addition to the five rigs it has running at Sertão and Pilar projects. Pilar Gold is reportedly focusing on increasing its current M,I&I oz Au from 4.07M to a target of 8M oz by the end of 2023.
Mária Lázara (MLSE) Pilar’s second producing mine at its flagship operation, PDGM. It was restarted in mid-2020 and is currently generating 700oz out of the total gold produced each month, with the potential to increase to 2,000+ oz with further underground development.
The MLSE drilling is testing an extension 3km south east of the mine. The company noted that four years previous, a drill programme conducted by Brio Gold intersected 3.68m @ 8.97 g/t Au from 251m depth (MLSE013) at the southern point of the known extension.
Pilar Gold is being assisted by the mineral research company Sondagem Brasileira, to test whether the orebody joins up with the mine 3km away.
The company has stated the most prominent hole thus far is MLSE020, located around 120m North of hole 13, where Pilar Gold has intercepted 2.3m with quartz-albite veining and arsenopyrite, reportedly like a mineralized interval intersected from MLSE013.
According to Pilar’s report, MLZ has an M&I&I resource of 373Koz Au and MLSE has an Inferred resource of 471Koz Au. The company intends to test whether the mineralization connects between MLZ and MLSE, which could potentially lead to a 3Moz Au resource after an in-depth drill programme has been completed.
An update regarding Sertão’s second season is expected by early March. Pilar Gold’s head geologist, Paulo Aguirre, is expected to investigate 250m from hole SRSD013, which previously assayed 0.5m @ 218 g/t after a shallow holes test was completed at the gap between the Nilsson and Crew’s reef at the side of stage 5 pit.
Pilar Gold believes Sertão has the potential to resume being one of the highest grading gold mines in the industry when it is restarted later this year.
