Red Hawk Mining Limited (ASX: RHK) has announced the formation of the Pilbara Advisory Committee (PAC). The PAC’s role is to offer crucial advice to the company on the development and optimization of the Blacksmith Iron Ore Project. The committee will provide counsel on various aspects including stakeholder engagement, native title groups and partners, advocating for the project with local communities and decision makers, and providing timely advice to Red Hawk’s board and management as they develop a significant new iron ore project in the Pilbara Region.
The Blacksmith project boasts a direct shipping ore (DSO) mineral resource estimate of 174Mt at a grade of 60.0% Fe. This makes it the largest undeveloped iron ore resource in the Pilbara Region held by an ASX-listed junior iron ore company. In October 2023, the company completed a Scoping Study which confirmed the feasibility of developing Blacksmith as a 3Mtpa DSO project using road haulage and existing third-party port infrastructure. Red Hawk is currently advancing a pre-feasibility study to further refine and optimise the project development, with the PFS set to be published in April 2024.
The PAC will be chaired by Brendon Grylls, who brings a wealth of experience in Pilbara regional development to the role. Mr Grylls served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 2001 to 2017, including a decade as the leader of the National Party. As the member for Pilbara for four years, Mr Grylls was instrumental in the Pilbara Cities program and the Royalties for Regions policy. Mr Grylls has worked closely with communities across the Pilbara to deliver regional development projects, ensuring a tangible community benefit from major projects. His recent work with Aboriginal corporations, Pilbara businesses and community organisations has fostered partnership innovation, which will be a key focus of the PAC.
In his comments on the establishment of the PAC, Mr Grylls said, “I look forward to working closely with the Town of Port Hedland, Shire of Ashburton, the City of Karratha and key government and community agencies to facilitate this exciting project. 174Mt of 60% Fe makes Red Hawk the largest of the junior iron ore companies in the Pilbara, and with this comes a great opportunity to capture value for our native title partners, local contractors, employees and the communities we will operate in. The PAC will work closely with the Red Hawk board and executive team to help secure the approvals and permits needed to deliver a project that the local community can celebrate.”
