New Assay Define High-Grade Intersection In Finland
S2 Resources Ltd (ASX:S2R) has defined a new intersection from gold assay results for the upper 290m of diamond hole FAVD0066 drilled at the company’s 100% owned Aarnivalkea prospect in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt (CLGB) in northern Finland.
The best interval of mineralisation is 18.6m at 1.1g/t gold from 228.0m, including 1.8 metres at 7.60g/t gold from 244.8m within a broader lower grade interval of ~90m at 0.4g/t gold from 172m. This zone is in the hanging-wall of the previously reported intervals from hole FAVD0066 which include:
- 0.64m at 7.5g/t gold from 314.2m, and
- 6.79m at 1.2g/t gold from 330.5m, including 0.89m at 5.2g/t gold from 335.5m.
The broad mineralised zone now identified in hole FAVD0066 is associated with variably sheared and altered dacitic and andesitic porphyritic intrusives.
CEO, Matthew Keane, said these are pleasing results.
“S2 is highly encouraged by the broad zone of gold anomalism in hole FAVD0066. There is clearly a lot of gold in the Aarni’ system.
“Once we have received further assays from this programme of very broad spaced step-out drilling, we will look to vector in on potential zones of higher-grade gold concentration. In the meantime, Ruopas Isovaara provides us with an exciting nickel-copper-PGE target, with drilling to commence imminently,” he said.
Hole FAVD0066 is located 265m north hole FAVD0062, which intercepted 6.8m at 11.8g/t gold from 223.0m and 300m south of hole FAVD0064, which intercepted 20.4mat 4.0g/t gold from 193.1m. The deeper zone of gold mineralisation at Aarni’ is greater than 700 metres in strike, with all assayed holes drilled below 110m containing significant mineralisation.
The initial 1,100m target zone for the current broad spaced scout programme has been extended by a further 200m to the south, after a favourable drill platform was identified within a generally hard to access swampy area. As a result, the current drill program will now probe below the entire 1,300m zone of anomalous gold identified in shallow scout diamond drilling conducted between 2018 to 2019.
Assays are awaited for the remainder of sampled intervals of holes FAVD0065 and FAVD0066, and for the entirety of holes FAVD0067 to FAVD0072. Hole FAVD0073, located 100m south of FAVD0064, is currently in progress. After its completion, the diamond rig will relocate south to test the Ruopas Isovaara nickel-copper-PGE target.
