Perth-based lithium exploration and development company Winsome Resources (ASX:WR1) is preparing for a drilling campaign to commence end of February, at its flagship Cancet property in the James Bay region of Quebec, Canada.
The news comes just weeks after Winsome announced it is set to significantly expand its lithium exploration footprint in Quebec, entering into an exclusive option agreement to acquire 669 claims totalling 385km2 in the prospective Decelles region of Quebec, Canada.
Managing Director, Chris Evans, said that by entering into this agreement, the company can more than double its land holding in Quebec and explore a new area of the province known for granitic and pegmatitic outcrops, located close to infrastructure and the major mining centres immediately adjacent to recent lithium discoveries.
“After an intense period of data gathering and interpretation it is very pleasing to have a drill plan that will increase our knowledge of the Cancet pegmatites previously identified,” Mr Evans said.
“It will also allow us to investigate nearby targets to the north, east and west that appear highly prospective for further lithium mineralisation.
“We are delighted to have found drilling resources so soon, allowing us to commence a drilling programme by the end of February 2022.”
Drilling campaign
The planned drilling campaign of 20 holes across 2,000m is expected to be completed by the end of March 2022 and will be conducted by Quebec based drilling company RJLL (RJLL Drilling).
The drilling programme will be completed with a single diamond drill rig operated in three, eight hour shifts per day.
The company has employed SGS Geological Services for geology support during the campaign. Winsome is also actively recruiting for in-house geologists and exploration support staff to assist with this campaign, ongoing fieldwork and future drilling campaigns planned by the company.
Between now and the commencement of drilling, the company is securing the authorisations required for field interventions (access trails and drill sites) for the drilling, as required by the Quebec Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles (Department of Energy and Natural Resources) (MERN) and local authorities.
EMS Plans
Given the effectiveness of the existing magnetic survey in identifying pegmatites, the Company has commissioned an enhanced magnetic survey over the entire Cancet property (395 claims).
This is expected to be completed by the end of March 2022, providing the basis for the field exploration programme due to commence on the property in the spring (April / May 2022).
The field exploration programme will include visual identification of pegmatite outcrops, rock chip sampling, trenching, and channelling to expose outcrops and further drilling.
