The Assay TV caught up with Owen Hegarty, Executive Chairman, EMR Capital, to discuss the impact of COVID-19 and how, despite the pandemic, he still believes in the strength of the junior miner sector. He also shared his views on the long-term potential of gold, copper, and potash
Owen Hegarty has some 40 years experience in the global mining industry, including 24 years with Rio Tinto where he headed Rio Tinto’s Asian and Australian copper and gold businesses. From the mid-1990’s, he led Oxiana Ltd from a junior explorer to a multi-billion dollar Asian and Australian explorer, developer and operator in base and precious metals.
Owen is currently the Executive Chairman of EMR Capital – a Melbourne based specialist mining private equity company. He is also Chairman of Tigers Realm Group, non-executive Director of Tigers Realm Coal Ltd and Highfield Resources Ltd. And until end of 2016 he was Vice Chairman of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd . Owen is a Fellow and Former Director of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and a member of a number of Government and industry resources advisory bodies.
